Changing hormones affect a lot more than your cycle.
Sleep, mood, energy, focus, weight, libido, and your ability to handle a normal amount of stress — all of it runs partly on hormones. And when those shift, most women don't connect it right away. They just notice they don't feel like themselves anymore.
Metabolic Health
Insulin resistance, blood sugar regulation, thyroid function, cortisol, and nutrient status all affect how your body uses and stores energy. When one of those is off, the same effort stops producing the same result.
That's the part most people never get checked. A standard panel looks at glucose and maybe a TSH. It doesn't look at fasting insulin, which can climb for years before blood sugar ever moves. It doesn't look at thyroid antibodies or free T3. So you can be metabolically struggling for a long time while every result comes back "normal."
I work with women dealing with weight that won't move, blood sugar swings, the 3pm crash, and fatigue that sleep doesn't fix. Instead of assuming you need to eat less and move more, I use your symptoms, your full history, and comprehensive testing to find out what's actually happening.

How metabolic care works here
Metabolic health is one of the areas I address inside The Renewal Experience — a six-month, one-to-one program.
It starts with a 75-minute consult, where I listen more than I talk. Your whole history, not a chief complaint in a fifteen-minute slot.
Then comprehensive testing, chosen from what you told me. For metabolic concerns that usually includes fasting insulin, glucose, A1c, a full lipid panel, complete thyroid function with antibodies, and nutrient markers. Cortisol patterning and additional specialty testing when your case calls for it.
Then a results review, where I walk you through every marker and show you how each finding connects to something you've been feeling.
Then treatment, in the order your body can handle. Nutrition and lifestyle strategies to support blood sugar and metabolism. Targeted supplementation based on what testing actually shows. Prescription therapy when it's warranted.
And a retest at month six, so the change shows up in numbers rather than hope.
About GLP-1 medications
GLP-1 medications affect appetite, blood sugar, and weight, and they can be a useful tool. I prescribe them when they're clinically appropriate.
But they're one part of a plan, not the plan. I won't put someone on a GLP-1 and send them off — not without attention to protein intake, muscle preservation, and nutrient status, because losing weight while becoming more depleted isn't a good outcome.
Functionally You does not guarantee a prescription. Medication recommendations are based on your individual health history, lab results, and clinical assessment.
Why a personalized approach helps
When the usual advice stops working, doing more of it rarely helps. Eating less and exercising more is reasonable guidance — it just assumes nothing upstream is interfering.
Looking closely at insulin, thyroid function, blood sugar regulation, and nutrient status often surfaces something that was never checked. And once you know what you're actually working with, the plan can be built around that instead of around a protocol designed for someone else.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Women dealing with weight resistance, blood sugar concerns, the afternoon energy crash, or fatigue that hasn't responded to diet and exercise changes. It's often a fit for women who feel like a routine that used to work has stopped working.
-
It can, when clinically appropriate. That decision depends on your health history, lab results, and clinical assessment — and it's always part of a larger plan rather than the whole plan.
-
No. Comprehensive testing is part of the first phase. I order it after your initial consult, based on what your history points toward.
-
For metabolic concerns, typically fasting insulin, glucose, A1c, lipids, full thyroid function including antibodies, and nutrient markers. Cortisol patterning and additional specialty testing when indicated. What gets ordered depends on your symptoms and history — I don't run the same panel on everyone.

The Renewal Experience runs six months. That's the shortest honest timeline for testing, treating, and confirming the change with a retest.

If you've been doing everything right and it isn't working, the next step is a conversation.
