Are you struggling with bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, reflux, or food sensitivities? Digestive symptoms can affect your comfort, energy, and quality of life. Even when standard testing comes back normal, persistent symptoms may mean a closer look is needed.
At Functionally You Health, I take a personalized, root-cause functional medicine approach to digestive health, because your gut affects far more than your digestion.
Gut Health
Your digestive system breaks down food, absorbs nutrients, and supports your immune system, hormones, and energy. When it isn’t working well, you may notice bloating, abdominal discomfort, irregular bowel movements, or reactions to certain foods. You may also feel it in places you wouldn’t expect, like fatigue, skin breakouts, low iron, or hormone and thyroid issues.
Digestive symptoms can have many causes, including changes in gut bacteria, inflammation, low stomach acid or digestive enzymes, food intolerances, and conditions like small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). Rather than recommending the same diet or supplements for everyone, I look at your health history, nutrition, lifestyle, testing, and symptoms together to find what’s driving yours.
A Root-Cause Approach to Gut Health

Why I Start With the Gut
For many women, the gut is the foundation everything else stands on. If you’re not absorbing nutrients well, supplements may not work, and levels like iron and B12 can stay low no matter how much you take. Your gut also helps clear hormones your body is done with and plays a big role in your immune system.
That’s why gut testing is part of my starting workup, alongside your bloodwork, not something we add later.
Digestive Concerns I Help With
Bloating, gas, and abdominal discomfort
Constipation, diarrhea, or bowel movements that are unpredictable
Reflux and heartburn
Food intolerances and reactions to certain foods
Symptoms that may be related to SIBO
Low iron, B12, or other nutrients that won’t stay up
Digestive symptoms alongside fatigue, skin issues, or hormone or thyroid concerns
If anything in your history or testing suggests something that needs a specialist or further evaluation, I’ll make sure you get to the right place.
All care is provided through telehealth, so you can work with me from home.
Your full story first. Your care starts with a 75-minute intake where we go through your symptoms, history, what you’ve already tried, and what you were told. Nothing gets ordered before this conversation.
Comprehensive testing. Based on your history, I order a comprehensive blood panel and comprehensive stool testing, which looks at gut bacteria, inflammation, digestion, and possible infections. When your symptoms point to SIBO, I may also recommend breath testing.
Foundations while your results process. You don’t sit around waiting. While your labs are in progress, we start a few simple foundations around nutrition, hydration, sleep, movement, and stress, and if your bloodwork shows you’re low in something, we start correcting it right away.
A results review that connects the dots. In a 60-minute visit, I walk you through every result and show you how your findings connect to your symptoms.
How Gut Health Support Works
A gut plan done in stages
I use the 5R approach to gut healing:
Remove what’s irritating your gut, like overgrowth, infections, or trigger foods
Replace what your digestion may be missing, like stomach acid or digestive enzymes
Reinoculate with targeted probiotics chosen for what your testing shows
Repair the gut lining with nutritional support
Rebalance stress, sleep, and eating habits so your gut can actually heal
Your plan may include nutrition changes, targeted supplements, and medication when it’s the right tool. We go in stages, so you’re never starting ten things at once.
Ongoing support and retesting. Gut health takes time. We adjust your plan as you respond and retest so you can see what changed.
Is This You?
You’re bloated by the end of the day, no matter what you eat
You’ve cut out gluten, dairy, and more, and you still have symptoms
Your bowel movements are unpredictable
You’ve tried probiotics and supplements without much change
Your iron or B12 stays low even when you take supplements
You’ve been told your digestive testing is “normal”
If you checked more than one, you deserve a closer look. Let’s find out what’s actually going on.

I focus on testing that gives reliable, useful answers, like comprehensive stool testing and SIBO breath testing. For food reactions, a food and symptom log and a short, guided elimination and reintroduction usually tell us more than a sensitivity panel.
